About the lesson

Teaching piano and sharing is one of my biggest joys in music. Whether you are looking for Jazz, Classical, Improvisation, Pop, Music Theory, Ear Training, Conservatory entrance exam preparation, I can help you on all levels and ages 15+. I welcome you to my home studio in Utrecht with my acoustic piano.

A Piano Lesson with Murat

Lesson Plan
  • Duration: 5 weeks

  • Focus: A single project or song

  • Finale: Recording a performance in the last week

  • Song Selection: A piece I pick (a tune from the Jazz RealBook or a graded classical piece) or you can bring your own piece

What you'll need
  • Location: My ground-level studio with a front garden (bike and free car parking available)

  • Welcoming Committee: Our cat Nomkun (unless you have allergies)

  • Start: We sit at the table, enjoy a beverage, and discuss any questions from the previous week

Typical lesson
  • A music notebook

  • A pencil

  • A digital or acoustic piano at your home

  • Listening and Analysis: Together, we listen to and analyze performances by master pianists, discussing techniques and interpretations.

  • Theory Work: We write and review musical concepts in your notebook, ensuring you understand the theoretical aspects of the piece.

  • Warm-Ups: We begin with easy technical exercises and ear training to build your skills and prepare you for the lesson.

  • Performance Review: You play the piece you've been working on, and I provide constructive feedback to help you improve.

  • New Concepts: I introduce new techniques or musical ideas tailored to enhance your playing.

  • Homework: Tailored listening, ear training, and technical exercises for the week
